Schedule 7 terror law should be reviewed

For the first time the Home Office has published a breakdown of ethnicity in its latest statistics on the use of Schedule 7. It confirms that non-whites have been disproportionately stopped and searched at UK ports. More than half, 55 per cent, of those stopped and searched were non-whites, hugely disproportionate to their proportion of the country's population – 8 per cent. The proportion of non-white was even higher, 84 per cent, for those detained for more than an hour.

Was this Black September II for the PLO?

By Daud Abdullah

One question lingers after September's drama at the United Nations (UN): what next for the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO)? As things stand, the PLO does not control all areas of the proposed Palestinian state and, if eventually successful, its bid for membership of the UN would leave Israel in occupation of an independent, sovereign state. By looking for a state on only 20% of historic Palestine (and even that much is doubtful), the PLO legitimises the partition of Palestine. In doing so it has abandoned its raison d'être; the liberation of Palestine.
