Winter concert
Treat yourself next Tuesday to the stunning sounds of the Layali Tarab Arabic band who will be playing their repertoire of beautiful music ranging from Palestine, to Lebanon, to Morocco to Iraq at the Palestine Solidarity Campaign's Winter Concert in Hammersmith.

Television and West End stars will also be treading the boards at the concert, in a performance of Seven Jewish Children, the acclaimed play by PSC patron, Caryl Churchill which was first performed at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in February 2009.

The short play is a moving reflection on Israel's 2008/9 attack on Gaza, and will be performed by Anna Carteret (best known for her role as Inspector Kate Longton in the BBC series Juliet Bravo), Jennie Stoller (who appeared in the original production at the Royal Court) and Andrew Jarvis (who has starred most recently in the West End in Lord of the Rings and The Woman in Black).

The poet and writer, Jean 'Binta' Breeze, who has performed on the London stage, as well as writing and performing for Channel 4 and the BBC, will be performing a selection of her poems, including Isiah and Love Amidst the War.

The concert will be compered by journalist and author, and PSC patron, Victoria Brittain. This is a fundraising concert for PSC.

Government introduces proposed changes to universal jurisdiction. Tell your MP to oppose these changes - War criminals not welcome!

War criminals not welcomeOn 1 December the government announced new proposals in the Police Reform Bill includes proposals which, if passed, would make it much more difficult to obtain arrest warrants for anyone accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity. These changes follow intense pressure from the Israeli government to ensure that Israelis do not face arrest under suspicion of war crimes if they travel to Britain.

Currently, for a magistrate to issue an arrest warrants, serious evidence must be presented against the person concerned. The proposed change adds a political dimension to a legal decision and introduces a source of delay when urgent action may be required to stop a suspect escaping justice. Britain has a duty to seek out and prosecute those responsible for war crimes.

PSC and other NGO's are calling for MPs to vote against these proposed changes. The current law fully complies with the Geneva Convention and the proposed changed will allow politicians to interfere with requests to issue arrest warrants for war criminals.

If passed the new legislations would allow the DPP, who is appointed and "superintended" by a government minister, the Attorney General, would have a veto over whether a suspected war criminal to be arrested, no matter how clear the evidence. And the DPP could find themselves under immense pressure from their boss, the Attorney General, to refuse an arrest warrant application if it was for someone from what the government considered an 'ally' country.

The situation is now crucial and we have very little time to change the out come of the vote. We are asking everyone to contact their MPs and insist that they vote against these proposals.

Even if you have already emailed your MP on this issue previously, it is important that you take 2 minutes to send them a new message, asking them to vote against the formally proposed changes. PSC have set up an easy to use e-tool to allow you to send a model letter to your MP.

Follow up your email by arranging a meeting with your MP at their next surgery. You can find your MP's contact details at:http://findyourmp.parliament.uk/
