 World Kashmir Diaspora Alliance

NO !   To Human Rights violations in Kashmir

Join us in our  Protest Demonstration  on the  International Day of Human Rights

10 December 2010,  Place  Schumann, from 11 AM until  1 PM, Brussels

On  that  same day, on that very moment  Indian Prime Minister  Dr.  Manmohan Singh, will visit  the European Parliament  as guest in the EU-India Summit.

We,  as organizers of the demonstration, want to  raise attention  for  the ongoing , cruel and wide spreads human rights violations  against the people of Kashmir  by the military and paramilitary forces in the  Valley of   Kashmir, which is under administration of the Indian Government.

We organize the protest  to express our concern on  the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Jammu and Kashmir,  and the  decade long and ongoing   denial of  the right to self determination  as promised to the  people of Kashmir by former Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, and agreed upon by  the UN in 1948. Over  600.000 troops are stationed  in Kashmir,  for one out of every ten civilians  a soldier or security officer  is at duty, which is  five times more then the  international forces  in  a war zone  as  Afghanistan…

We  strongly  condemn  the way  Government of India replies to people's non-violent protests, namely by imposing curfew,  brutal force and merciless repression by  army and security forces of the non-violent protestors.  Since  last June, so  in  only  five  months,   more than 120 non-violent protesters  (youth, women and children)  have been killed  by police and army bullets.

The mass revolt in Kashmir is not masterminded by   Pakistani  insurgents  but a genuine and non-violent  people's protest to claim the right to self determination.   Kashmiri socio- economic  and  political  society  is victimized by present and past political turmoil  fuelled by Indian and Pakistani  national politics  of  ignoring  people's   persistent  appeal to be granted   their   right  to  self determination . We appeal for dialogue  with  representatives  from all shades of Kashmiri  civil and political society.

We also appeal for  a dialogue between European Union and Kashmiri representatives of civil and political society about the true reasons of people's protest, about their ambitions and sentiments, and about roadmaps  to conflict resolution and peace.

Now that  Indian Prime Minister  Manmohan Singh  visits  European Parliament on  International  Human  Rights Day, we want to  remind him to the state of human rights in Kashmir  and show him that we  take him accountable  for  India's  democratic  deficit  in  Kashmir.

Prime Minister Manmohan  Singh is  responsible  for  the presence  of -   and the  ' shoot- to- kill'  mandate  for  -   the  huge military and paramilitary forces in  Kashmir ;  for the  ' Black Laws'   that grant impunity to perpetrators of human rights violations;  for  lack of  truth and justice ; for over two thousands  unmarked and nameless graves and the  denial of a  serious  inquiry  that must reveal the truth about  the allegations  exposed in the reports ' Facts Under Ground'  and  'Buried Evidence'   about these graves.

We  want  Dr. Manmohan Singh to take home  the  message of the people in Europe  that truth  can never  be buried and  justice  never  be compromised.

We invite you to join hands, as Kashmiri, Sikhs, Europeans,  in  a strong appeal for justice.

Together we can show our moral support for  the people of Kashmir  and  show them they  are not alone ;  that  we  express solidarity  with their  nonviolent struggle against  human rights violations and  the denial of self determination.

Join us, express your solidarity !
